Not Too Dusty
Quick Update
While things have slowed a bit here, life has not.
I am sharing a piece I wrote for our church below. The lack of the latest sermon and the absence of Monday Night Live episodes result from events that took precedence. We should get back on track very soon, week after next. In the meantime, here is an update that has slowed things here.
Dear Church Family,
Next month, July, will mark 1664 Sundays we have been together at Snow Hill. Of those Sundays, there have been only two times when an emergency kept me from attending our worship services. Last Sunday marked the second time.
If you are not aware, many a pastor finds it hard to be on the needing end of an emergency. I am no different. And it is a malady, not a virtue.
“I’m sick,” she said when I answered the phone.
“I need to go to the Doctor,” she continued.
By the time we worked through the Urgent Care and into the ER, it was clear I would need to miss Sunday. One phone call and one text message later, the Spirit of the Lord brought a peace that our Church would carry on with fellowship and worship, because the Body of Christ is always animated by the Spirit of Jesus, who never sleeps. Thus, neither does His Church.
What made this particular occasion a wonderful example of Jesus’s presence was that not only would I miss the morning, but Rusty would, too. And that leads us to both this Sunday and a new series that will begin on June 14.
We will look at Matthew 28:16-20 and the words of Jesus,
“Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
Last Sunday, the Church was immersed in the Trinitarian reality of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. What do we do when circumstances alter the normal pattern of our worship together? We trust the Father who speaks through the Son by the Spirit! That is an encounter with the Triune God.
When the named God is Trinity, we are pointing to both the Identity of the Christian God and, therefore, the Story of God that reveals the named God to us. Put another way, when we look back at the Story of God, we realize that the Triune God is not new but has always been Father, Son, and Spirit.
Through the Body of Christ on earth, you, we, witness the work of the Trinity as Alex and Laura, and Taylor and Caden, expressed the work of the Spirit to reveal the Son and the Father.
Thank you!
Our family thanks you for your prayers for Mom. Keep praying.
Looking forward to gathering with you for Bible Study and Worship on Sunday. We will observe the Lord’s Supper, Communion together.
Glad You Are Our Church!
Todd
